1. My most significant accomplishment in looking at my Midterm is that i am successful in combining different architectures from different countries into one place , which looks like they are originally in the same place. I think i am very proud of learning the photo shop's technique called blending which makes the not only  buildings but also people look very blur but beautiful. For example, i put my own profile on the Midterm project and it seems like i am in the sky and stirring at these famous buildings and looking forward to visiting these beautiful cities.Besides, after studying this photoshop, i have a deeper understanding of colors. As you can see from my Midterm project, i am able to adjust the color which best fits background.

2. The most challenging part i have met in this class is the use of  chopping technique in  Quiz 2. I tried to crop the balloons from the image i download from website and put them into my Quiz 2 as the background. But the problem is that i need many balloons which means i have to past many times of the image i download. Besides, i need to get rid of the white parts around the balloons from original image and make them connect and close to each other in my Quiz 2. I spend so much time on that part because it is not easy for me to make them look nature. However, after practicing many times, i am able to master it at the end of this quarter and i even use this technique everywhere in my future project.                                                                       

3.By comparing with my previous Quiz and Midterm project, i can  see there is really a large improvement for me to use photoshop. As you can see, the color for my Quiz seems too shinny but messy without any adjustment and cooperation . But the color in my Midterm project seems in the control that can express the meaning of my artwork. In addition, the combination of my Quiz seems too unnature which means people can easily see they come from different images and it is author who is mean to put them together. However, my midterm project looks much more nature and much more combined. Hence, i really learned a lot from this class in this quarter.                                                                                                                          

Final Artist Statement

 My big idea in the final project is environment protection. My purpose to focus on this project is that claiming the audiences to protect our environment and how to protect our environment as we only have one world and we are all part of this world. My project divides into 2 parts. One part of images shows how our environment destroyed around us now and continuing to be and it is really necessary to protect it from now, another part of images shows how to protect the world step by step. Here are my images I am going to use to show my claim. First, I would like to use an image of a building with a chimney, which release mach black smoke that even damages the sky. Besides, I would also like to show a picture with many cars on street that we can conclude that many harmful chemical components are produced everyday from the cars, which are considered as environmentally damage. Accordingly, I am showing a picture of many plastic bottles on the grounds, which are dirty and messed. And some plastic bags we used everyday to illustrate that everyone is destroying our world while using these plastic bags very often. Moreover, a picture of a woman who is cutting the plant, which is a way of destroying the nature, is showing. Last but never the least, I claim again the thesis of the final project by showing in words that “The reason why I pick this idea is that I am an environmental friendly person. As for me, everyone has responsibility of taking care of our global world, as all of us are a part of this world. Hence, this is really a serious and urgent issue in the 21st century. 

I am using different ways to show the two parts I mentioned before. For the first part that the bad sides of our environment now, I am using “fade out” style which means the same picture with a lower and lower opacity. However, when I describe the second part of my project, which is about how to protect our environment, I am using “strengthen” style, which means the same picture with a higher and higher opacity. In order for everyone start to protect our world around us, I recommend a recycling and environment protection organization in OSU that people can start protecting environment by joining in that organization.

In addition, it is interesting to find that there are some other environmental protections in our modern society .For example, there is certain way to protect environment even in terms of fashion. H&M’s head of design, Ann-Sofie Johansson confirmed that the brand is not limiting itself to organic cotton. The fashion brand has included organic linen, recycled polyester and Tencel among the materials used in its new eco-friendly collection. Johansson revealed that sustainable fabrics provide immense possibilities for creating fashion statements in a greener way. I like her work because her "green collection line" is environmental friendly, which is rarely and precious in fashion design. Most of her clothes made in organic cotton. As for me, her work influences me because I always consider environmental problems as big issues. Therefore, I am going to use her big idea of “environment “as my idea in final project.

Also, the resource comes from my final project is the recycling organization in OSU. On the first day came to OSU to have orientation, the recycling organization passed the handout to me when I walked on the oval. Hence, that recycling organization impressed me a lot as the projects and activities of this recycling organization is long-term rewarding and beneficial. It increases my attention on the importance of protecting environment.

All in all, the images of my animation come from the pictures I took before. Some of them are the pictures I took in China, whereas some of the pictures I took in OSU. As we can see, environmental problem is a global problem that bothers us all over the word. That is also why I think we should pay more attention on this big idea.

My big idea in the final project is environment protection. My purpose to focus on this project is that claiming the audiences to protect our environment and how to protect our environment as we only have one world and we are all part of this world.  My project divides into 2 parts. One part of images shows s how our environment destroyed around us now and continuing to be and it is really necessary to protect it from now, another part of images shows how to protect the world step by step. I am going to use different pictures gathered from the pictures I had taken before to show a continuous animation.

The first influce that drives me to talk about this big idea is the recycling organization at OSU. When I first day come to OSU on oriendation, I waled through oval of OSU, and some people are introducing their organization and pass the handouts to me. The organization named “recycling” interests me and impress me because I think what they do is a long-term beneficial and rewarding activity. So I go to website to search for their official website and the detailed information of what they did. This organization so impressed me that when it reminds me  of thinking about this big idea “environment” .Their offical website is listed below.

The last but never the least, I am deeply influence by a interesting environment fact . It shows the interesting statistics that trash we throw and plastic bottles we used. According to the website,

                  1.   Each year Americans alone throw away 18 billion disposable diapers.  In perspective, this is enough to extend from the earth to the moon and back 7 times.

           

            2.   In 2 weeks, Americans throw enough glass bottles and jars out to fill the New York Trade Center’s twin towers.

           

            3.   Americans go through on average 2.5 million plastic bottles per hour.

           

            4.   58% of U.S. newspapers are recycled.

           

            5.   500,000 trees could be saved from being cut down if every family in the United States recycled their newspaper.

           

            6.   Ford Motor Company indicates that 75% of every vehicle is recyclable.

           

            7.Dishwashers use about 11 gallons of water.  Hand washed dishes use up approximately 16 gallons.

           

These are environmental facts that drive me to pay more attention on the environment topic . Therefore, this is another resource of my final big idea.

Blog post for Quiz 4

The two movies i choose to combine together is SEX AND THE CITY and THE A- TEAM .

These two are actually different movies with different themes. SES AND THE CITY is the show focused on four white American women, three in their mid-thirties and one in her forties in New York. The quirky series had multiple continuing storylines  and tackled socially relevant issues.It specifically examined the lives of big-city professional women in the early 2000s and how changing roles and expectations for women affected the characters. However, THE A-TEAM is a movie talks about a group of of Iraq War veterans looks to clear their name with the U.S military, who suspect the four men of committing a crime for which they were framed. 


I combined these 2 movie posters because they have one common point is that both of them have 4 people. One is talking about women's life and one is talking about man's life. In my new movie poster, you can see i use "red" color as the main color to illustrate the romance between women and men. In my image, i use a red curtain in the middle seems like i am revealing the women's life and men's life to audiences through this movie poster.

Mid artist statement

My big idea of the midterm diptych is architecture, buildings and traveling. For the first artwork, i am depicting a combination of  global architecture. You can see Eiffel Tower from France, Big ben from London, famous skyscraper from New York, famous bridge from Italy. As for me, i like traveling so much. I always have a dream to travel all over the world . If i have a chance to travel those countries and cities, the most things i am interested in is visiting their different styles of buildings. 

For the second artwork, i am focusing on a particular country-Spain. All of the architectures come from Spain. As we can see, the style of Spanish buildings seem to be similar. In this case, we can see that buildings from each country have its unique and same style.

Therefore, i am going to use her big idea of " environmental friendly " as my idea in final project. Here i have some questions about her work. For example, does the color of clothes change after washing as they are made of organic cotton? will the clothes be very expensive as they are made of organic stuff? Anyway, i love her work and will expand her idea into my final project.
